This video, of a wind turbine in Holland that self-destructs in a particularly high wind, has been available on YouTube for several months now.

That is obviously a test of one made of fibreglass. Two reasons mean this is not a proper wind turbine:
1. The proper ones are made of steel
2. Why would someone just happen to be filming it when it happened. There filming it because it is a test. Funny how it happened when someone was filming it…

I don’t agree with your assessment, Phil. While some components near the root of a turbine blade are clearly made of steel or other high strength metals, I think it’s common for the blade body to be made of fiber-composite laminates. A blade this large made entirely of steel would be enormously heavy. As to how it was captured on film, I don’t this was filmed by a random by-passer. My guess is that because someone recognized that the overspeed control had failed, they anticipated that the blades might fail as well, and started filming.
